Bio

Joe Parisi is the lead attorney on the firm’s Engineering & Design Team.

Joe represents companies in software, computer science, business methods, medical devices, and mechanical industries. Joe uses his legal experience and education to help established and emerging growth companies develop domestic and international intellectual property portfolios. As part of his counseling practice, Joe utilizes his in-depth understanding of the complexities of the software and mechanical arts to develop comprehensive IP strategies to commercialize, license, and protect intellectual property assets. In addition to Internet and computer inventions, Joe has a broad patent history preparing and prosecuting patent applications for video broadcasting systems, medical devices, bioelectronic systems, and many electrical and mechanical engineering technologies. Joe also conducts infringement analyses, IP due diligence, freedom to operate opinions, and provides counsel in patent litigation.

As a patent examiner, Joe examined applications relating to software-based electronic commerce, purchasing, and payment processing, electronic trading, insurance, health care, financial portfolio management, data synchronization, application testing, stored value card redemption, and advertisement serving and targeting.

Prior Experience

• Adjunct Professor of Law at American University Washington College of Law, teaching patent prosecution, claim drafting, and practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• Patent Examiner in Business Method Art Units of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office examining computer and Internet inventions.
• Biomedical Engineering Manager at the Washington Hospital Center supporting radiological imaging, nuclear medicine, radiation oncology systems, and cardiac catheterization systems.
• Engineering and management positions at Picker International and Philips Medical Systems in magnetic resonance imaging and diagnostic radiology.
